Dr. Erin Nelson is the Director of School Training for Threat Assessment Group, Inc. (TAG) and served as Research Director of TAG’s Columbine Psychiatric Autopsy Project.

Dr. Erin Nelson is the Director of the Preparation for Practice Course at the Texas Christian University and University of North Texas Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, where she is also the Director of the Mental and Behavioral Health curriculum and an Associate Professor of Medical Education. Dr. Nelson is also an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix in the Departments of Psychiatry and Bioethics and Medical Humanism. Dr. Nelson is also a consultant to the Phoenix Police Department. 

Dr. Nelson has testified in and/or consulted on cases involving a wide range of issues, including, but not limited to: school violence, workplace violence, domestic violence, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, discrimination, ADA claims, fitness for duty, impaired professionals, boundary violations, teacher misconduct, wrongful death, suicide, substance use/abuse, psychiatric autopsy, mental state at the time of the offense, competency issues, attempted murder, felony murder, domestic homicide, sexual assault, case management standard of care, and emotional distress.

Dr. Nelson’s clinical experience includes treatment of adolescent and adult patients on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Dr. Nelson has worked with persons with serious mental illness in inpatient, outpatient, and correctional settings. She has practiced in state and federal correctional facilities and has worked with mentally ill offenders across security levels.
